There are several delightful walks to enjoy from
your casita at Los Colibris, including the following:
Beach Walk
Los Colibris
is just a 10-minute walk from the beautiful Playa La Poza. The
beach is virtually empty on most days and you can stroll for miles
without seeing another person. In January, February and March there
are often whales swimming, breaching and spy-hopping just a few
yards off the shore. The beach walk skirts along the freshwater
estuary which features a fantastic array of bird life including
pelicans, herons, egrets, gulls, frigatebirds, ibis, ducks, cormorants,
sandpipers, stilts and many, many more. Please see our bird list for all the birds spotted from Los Colibris.
Hill Walk
The walk through the rolling hills
behind Los Colibris offers a wonderful array of views and landscapes.
It takes you through the fantastic desert landscape down to the
beach, and offers terrific views of the Sierra de la Laguna mountains,
the distinct formation of Punta Lobos and its sweeping beach, and
the lush grasses and majestic palms of the freshwater estuary.
In addition to a wide range of cactus and desert plants, we often
see jackrabbits, chipmunks, roadrunners, quails, owls, hawks, hummingbirds,
orioles, gnatcatchers, flycatchers and doves on this walk – and
virtually no humans!
Palm Grove Walk
Los Colibris looks out over the Todos Santos oasis,
which is marked by a swath of lush palms following the water flow
off the mountains. This walk cuts directly across this amazing
palm grove and takes you out to the sea turtle hatchery on Playa
La Poza. You might get lucky enough to see the conservationists
releasing the newly-hatched turtles into the sea!
